Ripon is a beautiful city located in North Yorkshire in Harrogate, just 27 miles from Leeds. One of the main features of the city is Ripon Cathedral which is thought to date back as fas at 672. The city was given its official charter (the first one in Britain) in 886. The city was once under the control of the Vikings and was affected by its Norman control later on in history.

By the 16th and 17th centuries, Ripon had a thriving cloth and wool industry and it also became known for the spears that it produced. During the industrial revolution, the town was relatively unaffected.

Although well known for its wool and cloth as well as having a busy tourist trade, Ripon is in fact the third smallest city in England and had a population of just over 17,000. As well as the cathedral the city has a racecourse that pulls in lots of visitors as is close to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites – Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Park.
