Smell is just as important as appearance in your kitchen. Not all kitchen processes result in delightful aromas, and without taking mitigating steps you could end up having to deal with rancid odours.

A kitchen refurb can be a significant investment. So after the kitchen refurb it is important to keep the finished space clean and well maintained.

Wipe Counters

Kitchen counters can be contaminated by raw food, spilled liquids, dirty crockery and more. Wipe them immediately, and follow any manufacturer’s instructions regarding cleaning products.

Remove Stagnant Water

Stagnant water is an invitation to odorous bacteria and mould. Do not leave pots in to soak for too long, and change water in flower vases regularly.

Mop Floors

Avoid carpet in your kitchen, as any bad smells will soak into it, and make sure you mop any spills on your hard floor promptly.

Wash Dishcloths and Towels

This should be done at least once a week, but if you notice a cloth or towel is dirty, move it to the laundry and replace it.

Clean Sinks and Drains

You do not need harsh chemicals for a basic clean of your sink and drains. Just use a mix of bicarbonate of soda and vinegar.

Add Fragrance

Freshness starts by removing sources of bad odours, but you can also add scents with flowers, candles, sprays or baking if you want the space to be even more inviting.

Ensuring your kitchen smells fresh and continues to be a pleasant place requires a combination of good design with regular cleaning and maintenance.
